The following list indicates the regulations covered by our examination services:

• The Control Of Substances Hazardous To Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH)

  COSHH requires the employer to operate and maintain Extraction (Spray Booth) and Local Exhaust Ventilation (Exhaust Extraction) Plant in a safe condition. An initial COSHH assessment should be performed, to determine the level of hazard and control measure required. From then on a 14 monthly, 6 monthly or monthly examination and test by a competent person is required.

• Electricity At Work Regulations 1989 (EAWR)

  Places a legal responsibility on employers and employees, as duty holders to ensure that electrical installation systems and portable appliances used at work under their control, are safe. Achieving compliance with the legal requirements requires proof that an electrical system is safe, which involves amongst other things, proper inspection and testing of an electrical installation system by a competent person and the creation and maintenance of records. The purpose of the regulations are to prevent danger (risk of injury) & to prevent injury (where danger exists), not to give rise to danger.

• Lifting Operations And Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)

  LOLER applies in addition to the requirements of PUWER 98 for lifting plant, machinery and equipment involved in lifting operations. The requirement of these regulations is that the Owner/User is required to Plan, Supervise and Execute the lifting operation to ensure safety at all times.

• Power Presses

  PUWER 1998 requires that Power Presses with automatic, photoelectric or interlocking guards are inspected every 6 months. Power Presses with fixed guards or enclosed tooling should be examined every 12 months, by a competent person. In addition to this, PUWER requires that process machinery with guards should be inspected regularly and although intervals are not specified, similar ones to the above are advised.

  For paper guillotines and plastic injection moulding machines, there are Guidance Notes which also recommend periodic safety inspections by competent persons.

• Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (PSSR)

  PSSR requires pressure systems to be inspected in accordance with a Written Scheme of Examination. The regulations apply to owners and users of relevant fluids including steam, gases under pressure and any fluid kept artificially under pressure and which becomes a gas when released to the atmosphere.

• Provision And Use Of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)

  PUWER 98 relates to the provision and use of work equipment and it's Safe Use. The requirement of these regulations is that the Owner/User should give consideration to:

  • The nature and degree of risks associated with the plant, machinery and equipment and its use.
  • The means available to reduce those risks accordingly.
